North East Map

From a property perspective, the north east quarter is still very much a sleepy backwater of fishing villages and rubber plantations. It remained unexplored because of the lack of white sandy beaches. Traditionally, the area was never on the tourism map because other areas offered more immediate development potential. That said, one of the biggest assets seen by those who have had the foresight to develop in the area, rivaling anything available on the western shores, are the fantastic views over Phang Nga Bay .

The realization that the airport, Phuket Town, British International School, and shopping centers such as Tesco Lotus, Big C and Central all lay within reach opened wider possibilities, especially for the growing residential market. While the west coast has developed through tourism, the east coast looks more focused on property development, fulfilling the dream of a home in the sun.

Astute investors have already begun to recognize the potential and coupled with reasonable land prices, undisputed title, big parcels and superb views, have allowed developers to offer generous plot sizes to rival their competitors on the West Coast.

Ao Po and Cape Yamu:

Both areas in particular, are worthy of consideration.

Today, the greater Ao Phor area retains the quiet charms of a local fishing village surrounded by rubber plantations and rolling hills. One of the more ambitious developments that have taken place is the construction of the 18-hole Mission Hills Golf course, which is said to rival that of the Blue Canyon Country Club.

Since the completion of Missions Hills a number of property transactions have taken place by investors buying trenches of land with a view of developing residential communities on the cusp of a property boom. One example is Mission Hills Estate, which offers large homes in a gated community with prices from around 10+ million baht.

Further a-field moving north toward Ao Phor pier is East Coast Villas (re-sale) - in spite of it name, an apartment development comprising some 40 apartments offering sea views with prices beginning from around 5 million baht.

Still within the area, another development called The Estate Beachfront, comprise 19 villas in a gated community at Laem Yang. The Estate Beachfront undoubtedly offers some of the best views of Phang Nga Bay . The villas are the creation of Australian architect - Kry Tarnowski whose design emphasis is modern tropical homes with big areas for outdoor entertainment and living. Materials will include local hardwoods and stone to create a natural relaxed atmosphere.

And finally then - within the same area, is the recently launched development know as Tawan Views. The development is beyond the pier and will feature large 3 and 4 bedroom apartments and penthouses in a 4 story block. The developer will be using a contemporary theme, featuring the use of glass and stainless steel with views encompassing Phang Nga bay. Prices will commence from 20 million baht.

Moving South, but still within Phuket's north eastern corridor is Cape Yamu. The cape juts from the mainland onto Spaam Bay with access from a smallish lane way, which obscures the value being created in this prestigious location. Witness one developer, now moving into Phase two - Baan Yamu, offering aesthetic modern sea view villas, town homes and apartments in priced from around 10 million baht.

The developer Campbell Kane has a large presence in Cape Yamu Their plans encompass 3 simultaneous projects in the same location and include Cape Yamu a gated community of just 33 luxury villas; The Yamu a luxury resort hotel and The Bay a collection of just 8 villas.

Cape Yamu is destined to become another Aman Puri on the Eastern shoreline. Working with the likes of Adrian Zecha (of the Aman Hotels) and Philippe Stark whose names are synonymous with international design together with the architectural eminence of Jean Michel Gathy, whose signature product include the Aman Resorts - the developers have been commissioned with an environment consciousness and an eye for aesthetics. The Villas will retain elements of Thai traditional architecture, yet offer fresh and inspiring spatial and visual approaches to ocean front living.

Finally within the Yamu peninsula is Grove Gardens . Grove Gardens is developed by the Scandinavian developer know as Tri Asia. Although there are no views as such the development focuses on modern lifestyle apartments and town homes in a gated community with prices from 4 - 12 million baht.
